15Kenichiro Tanaka was born in Tokyo in 1950. He joined the Imperial Hotel in 1969. His rst job was in the department which made food for the staff. He says he did not join the hotel to make food for the staff, so he was disappointed; however, from the time he started working, he learned the practical aspects of cooking, which taught him a lot. At that time, the 11th executive chef was Nobuo Murakami. He had a god-like presence, and when he came into the staff canteen, the staff fought to serve him by playing “rock-paper-scissors.”KENICHIRO
